The Giants of the Alps
“From up here the world of men doesn’t seem that crazy,
just grey and enclosed within itself”
Walter Bonatti
"Tor des Géants":
not French, not Italian but patois dialect.
A path among the Giants, a race for Giants.
From Courmayeur to Courmayeur.
A loop suspended between earth and sky winds through the foothills of the famous 4000 m mountains of the Alps.
These are: the sacred monsters of Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa and Matterhorn. Feared, loved, revered.
Mont Blanc
The Mont Blanc chains forms a splendid backdrop to Courmayeur, and boasts the highest mountain peak in Europe, at an altitude of 4807m. The summit of Mont Blanc was first conquered in 1786, but it remains to this day one of the greatest challenges for climbers from all over the world.
Proposals:
“Adventure in the Alps” – Hervé Barmasse
Courmayeur - La Thuile
From the center of Courmayeur take the road that leads to Piazzale Monte Bianco, continue in the direction of Dolonne up the road to the Fonti Vittoria. After the bridge on the left, take trail A1 on the right that leads to Arpettaz pasture. Continue on the farm road until the last Arp mountain pasture. From there continue along the path that leads to the Col Arp (2571 m).
