THE MONT BLANC TUNNEL... SPACES TO DISCOVER
From Courmayeur to Chamonix in 12 minutes: The Mont Blanc Tunnel, a link between peoples and territories in the heart of the Alps and an international tourist and economic communication axis since 1965.
On July 16, 1965, the Presidents of the Italian Republic and the French Republic, Giuseppe Saragat and Charles De Gaulle, inaugurated the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Three days later, on July 19, the first vehicles crossed the entrance threshold of what was then the world's longest road tunnel beneath the highest mountain in Europe. Since then, the infrastructure has hosted over 75 million vehicles.
Today, the Mont Blanc Tunnel represents an important connection between Italy and France. As a symbol of friendship between two countries, it is also a global reference for innovation in safety. 24/7, Italian-French teams are committed to ensuring a high level of service and safety. Over 260 people work for this 11.6-kilometer-long project, which means more than 22 people per kilometer.
The European Economic Interest Group of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, the company responsible for managing this infrastructure, is proud to offer its support to the organizers, volunteers, and participants of the Tor des Géants, who are driven by the same will and courage as those who made its construction possible.
The TORX and the Mont Blanc Tunnel both symbolize the bond that unites the peoples living at the feet of the "giants," the highest mountains in Europe.
