“Spectacular terraces
and DOC red wine”
The past has left indelible traces at Donnas, an obligatory stop-off point on the consular Gaul Roman road, a paved stretch of which is still preserved today, along with a typical arch carved into the stone, which dates back to the I century A.D., and has become symbolic of the town.
But as well as being situated along a Roman road, Donnas marks a stage of another route: the Road of Wine, which proposes alternative routes between vineyards. It is part of the national City of Wine association and every fourth Sunday of May it hosts the event Open cellars.
Wine has been being produced here since 1214 and it seems that in May of 1800, even Napoleon and his soldiers had occasion to appreciate and taste it. The picoutendro is the main vineyard in Donnas, cultivating its vines on spectacular terraces and elevated slopes, to produce Donnas, a wine with Registered Designation of Origin from the grape variety Nebbiolo. Pass through without at least stopping to taste a glass and you will be missing out!

For lovers of canyoning
The natural pools of the river Fer, carved into the granite rock, provide an irresistible lure for experts of canyoning, who will be able to try their hand at diving, sliding and abseiling with ropes.
Long hikes
Furthermore, you can make long or short hikes, of increasing levels of difficulty, throughout the area. The hike to Bec Renon which takes around 6 hours will challenge you with a difference in height of 1986 meters. From up there, if the day is clear, the view extends from the city of Turin, to the Monte Rosa range, and to Mont Avic.
Of the same length is the hike to Mount Bo, with a difference in height of 1688 meters. You pass by the Red Alp plateau, reaching the pasture of Bonze, overlooked by the Bec delle Strie. From here the most expert hikers can continue towards the saddle between Mount Bo and Mount of the Chamois, going along the ridge and up to the peak, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
