The Tor des Géants® is also an opportunity for solidarity. Thanks to the volunteers, the local associations, the mountain guides, the men of the Alpine rescue, etc.. Everyone, usually, do more than their office. Than there is the solidarity, equally important, of the runners, that help each other during the race and that, in different occasion, concern the word outside the race.
Twenty athletes, for example, have bought in a short period of time those which are called “solidarity bibs”. A large part of the amount obtained from their sale shall be paid by VDA Trailers to Institutions, Associations, non-profit organizations operating for charity.
This year to benefit from it is a little but fierce charity association from Aosta Valley, “Tutti Uniti per Ylenia” (Togheter for Ylenia), founded in 2014, engaged in helping the poor families and in health emergencies, as well as to raise social awareness of the issue of organ donation, blood and blood components. Paying particular attention to the families that need to treat children, frequently far from home. In practice, with the money raised by the solidarity bibs the Association - chaired by Sonia Furci, Ylenia’s mom, a 10 months baby who was attacked by a simple virus that have provoked her a severe case of dilated cardiomyopathy - will decorate the kitchen of a home in Turin. Home, also “supported” by the ABRI Foundation of Aosta, providing for parents obliged to follow the hospitalization of their children in health facilities in Turin.
