This 2015 edition of Tor des Géants was without doubt a difficult one due to the hostile weather conditions. Because of that, the decision of closing the race earlier than usual is correct and has been well received by the athletes. The race is definitively suspended: this means that there will be a price giving ceremony for winners and finisher. Everyone who arrived at the life base of Gressoney ( km200) before the incoming time deadline will be considered a Finisher. Well appreciated was also the speed with which the Organization has been able to recover all the runners that were in the different refreshment points and life basis and all their yellow bags. Runners went down from the high part of the paths accompanied by volunteers and guides because part of the paths was becoming dangerous because of the worsening weather; before 1pm everyone was in Courmayer.
Award giving ceremony will be tomorrow starting at 5pm: the appointment will be in Piazza Brocherel, in front of the City Hall, for a brief parade in Via Roma until the finish line. Then, everyone will gather at the Forum Sport Center in Dolonne for the official Ceremony and a final party.
The Organization is trying to arrange as many place as possible for sleeping for free tonight at the Forum Sport Center of Dolonne. On the other hand, Cormayeur administration is requesting the hotel to give special prices to everyone who would like to sleep in a hotel room. The Organization consider its decision to definitively suspend the race suffered, meditated and correct as there were no more the conditions to continue the race without any risk.The Organization would like to thank everyone who contributed to make a very difficult race safe for the runners .A consideration about that: intervention of the sanitary staff are less than in the previous editions. The Organization would like to thank the fundamental work of the volunteers, of the rescue team, of hotel manager, doctor, nurses, physiotherapists and, of course, all the sponsors for their support.
The Organization deeply feels and understands the immediate disappointment of someone, but confirms that safety of every single runner is, and will be, the first priority on the list.
