Immersed in the pollution-free nature of the Grand Paradis, Valsavarenche is a paradise for all fans of alpine excursions. Here they can choose between a myriad of routes which climb the mountainsides, brimming with beautiful wildlife.
The area is dotted with sixteen main villages, which follow on one after the other, first to the right, then to the left, and with the Savara stream which originated from the Grand Etret glacier, the lowest of the thirteen glaciers in Valsavarenche.
The long valley extends to the north and south and is towered over by many peaks over 3000 metres in height, and by the two highest mountains on Italian land: the Grand Paradis (4061 m) and the Grivola (3969 m).
The “Wolf space” and the “Lynx museum”, inside the Grand Paradis National Park’s Visitors Centre, are places of interest for those who love alpine fauna.
“Civet” is a typical local dish: game meat marinated in wine, spiced and then stewed. The result is delicious and can be tasted during the “Civet Festival”, which locals and holiday-makers enjoy every year in August.
Action Valsavarenche
Tour of Grand Paradis, Renato Chabod Trophy: ski touring competition in pairs, mixed techniques, the only trial of the Top Class Italian Championship. It takes place in April every year. The competition course starts in the heart of the Grand Paradis National Park, with an overall height difference, all uphill, of over 2000 metres. This feature is essential to Italian Top Class long distance competitions.
During the winter months, this area is the perfect place for enthusiasts of cross-country skiing, ski touring and snow shoe walks, but there is also space for those who love sliding on the snow with the fluid movements of downhill skiing.
High speed with Snow X: let yourself experience the adrenaline rush caused by the tricks, jumps and slides on the snowboard cross, hurtling at top speed on the snow-capped run between Dégioz and Payel.
Adventures in mid-air: test your spirit of adventure, climbing along thousand-year old walls and experiencing the vertigo when crossing the rapids of the Savara stream, suspended at mid-air: all this is possible at the Le Gordze du Terré Adventure Park which is truly one of its kind.
