Quart

“Among the traces
of the first settlements”

Sitting in a sun-kissed plane, the municipality of Quart extends across a vast area dotted with numerous villages and hamlets, which boast ancient origins, dating back to the beginnings of humanity.

The remains of the Neolithic necropolis, in the Les Cleyyes area at the village of Vollein, are considered one of the first traces of human settlement in the Aosta Valley. More than 60 chest-shaped tombs, from the ice age period, and rupestral engravings dating back to the II millennium B.C.

In the medieval period Quart Castle was forged, it overlooks the landscape and has been revised many times over the course of the century. Currently the castle in undergoing important salvage and restoration works.

The cheese of Quart is Fontina, which seems to have taken its name from a local alpine pasture, the Alpe Fontin. It is the best-loved typical product of the region, and protagonist of the Quart Fromage celebration, which is held every year on the 14th of August at Quart Castle.

Action Quart

The Aosta Valley in the saddle: Contemplate the beauty of the region from the saddle. On horseback you can immerse yourself in the green of one of the sunniest alpine pastures in the Aosta Valley. Or in the saddle of your mountain bike, a great speed. Or on foot, along the routes which unravel along the slopes.

Sport fishing: For lovers of ‘fly fishing’, who use the catch and release technique, Riverains manages the ‘no kill’ winter reserve on the stretch of the Dora Baltea river which begins at the Brissogne bridge and finishes at the old Saint-Marcel bridge.
